DSCENE Beauty | Last Call at 54: When Fashion Ruled the Night

Published on

In the late ’70s, New York nightlife didn’t just influence fashion—it defined it. At Studio 54, outrageousness was mandatory, rules were optional, and style ruled the night. As fashion blurred with performance art, sequins, metallic platforms, feather boas, and fearless silhouettes turned every entrance into a statement.

In August 2025, DSCENE Beauty Magazine revisited that era in “Last Call at Studio 54,” a story imagined in the afterglow of NYC, 1979—when beauty ruled the night and fashion lived somewhere between elegance and rebellion.

Photographed by Thomas Chimney, the series captures the spirit of a time when icons like Grace Jones and Bianca Jagger blurred gender, glamour, and performance, transforming fashion into spectacle.

Model Moon Choi anchors the story with a commanding presence, while makeup artist Roshar balances memory and futurism through bold pigment and luminous skin. Hair designer, Lorenzo Diaz, sculpts striking silhouettes, and stylist Kara Erwin frames the narrative with pieces from Alexis Bittar, Ruko B, Wolford, CÉ LE NOM, and Mrs. Momma Bear.

At the club’s entrance, a velvet rope defined the runway, where glamour was currency and creativity determined entry. Body paint, tuxedos, and towering platforms turned waiting in line into an exhibition. Inside, style was unapologetic—fur brushed shoulders, clunky gold jewelry caught the light, and silhouettes were designed to move, shimmer, and command attention.

That fearless energy is what makes The Black Widow Dress by Mrs Momma Bear feel at home in “Last Call at 54.” With its sculpted midi-length silhouette, defined shoulders, and double-lined construction, the dress channels the era’s love of strong lines and confident presence—translated for modern life. Designed to support and shape without the need for shapewear, it moves effortlessly from day to night, from authority to allure.

Studio 54 fashion was about owning the room, not dressing for approval. The Black Widow Dress carries that legacy forward—powerful, intentional, and unabashedly present. It’s a reminder that glamour doesn’t have to be impractical, and confidence never goes out of style.

We’re honored to be featured in DSCENE Beauty Magazine’s “Last Call at 54” and proud to be part of a story that celebrates one of fashion’s most daring eras—where confidence, creativity, and self-expression ruled the night.
